A team from Innovation, Research and Training Centre (INNORET) and Catholic Relief Service (CRS) today, on 6th July visited Masasa dumpsite, Mchengautuba old dumpsite and Msilo Waste Management Facility in Mzuzu City – Malawi.

This visit marked the onset of the 3rd phase of Malawi Green Corps (MGC) Project implementation that will involve dumpsites rehabilitation and engagement of the youths in waste entrepreneurship/business.

The MGC project responds to negative effects of climate change and environmental degradation by imploring effective environmental management measures. The project also aims to rehabilitate waste hotspots (dumpsites) while simultaneously upskilling and mentoring youths to take up or create green jobs.

With support from UNDP’s recovery programme, the MGC initiative is engaging 2000 youths to rehabilitate 5000 hectares of degraded areas and waste hotspots while providing the youths with green entrepreneurship capacities.
